"Eye Clinic Appointment"

About: Fairfield General Hospital / Ophthalmology

I attended eye clinic on 10th April 2018 for a follow up appointment with my mum after her cataract operation. Her appointment was at 11.45 am - and we are still waiting. It is now 12.45 pm. I am appalled by the long wait as the clinic was full with only two doctors on. Why is there appointment times allocated to a patient and is not adhered too. It is not good enough. The NHS is really not a service we were once used to and has deteriorated beyond belief. Don't think it will get better. I am of the opinion too many foreign patients are using our service when the NHS is full to capacity.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Please accept my apology for the wait you and your Mother experienced for her appointment, and any undue distress caused.

I am informed by the Ophthalmology Leadership Team that the Eye Clinic is very busy, it looks after new and current patients with a wide range of, mild to serious conditions.

Many of these patients will require two or three tests on the day, and may have to be given bad news, all of which can affect the waiting time to be seen.

I understand that the clinic you attended had the expected complement of clinical staff, and that patients are advised of the possible long waiting times prior to attending.

I hope I can assure you that although there may be delays it is because the Eye Clinic is working hard to ensure that every patient receives the right care.

Regards,

Head of Patient Experience
