"My health suffered greatly whilst under this..."

About: Whiteladies Medical Group

I was a patient here for nearly two years and am glad I've now registered elsewhere. I was rarely involved in decisions relating to my healthcare and was told that "it was in my head" I am certain this is because I had co-morbid mental health issues. One particular GP decided that my smear test wasn't traumatic for me and tried to force me to have the coil out in the surgery even though the mere thought triggered flashbacks and anxiety attacks I have since been seen in hospital who agree that actually I should have it out under general anaesthetic to avoid further trauma. Another GP decided to ask me, after telling them I'd been a victim of rape, if I knew what consent was. It took a year to be taken seriously for just one health issue. There was also a distinct failure to listen to my health concerns which has now caused my new GP to have to expend vast amounts of time correcting. It not so much clinical negligence but stigma towards people with mental ill health. The final straw was when I was forced to see a private GP at my own expense because I wasn't being listened to. Other issues I've had is they consistently brought up my weight (Which is the result of a hormonal problem) and whenever I lost any weight I was accused of anorexia and when I was stable I was told to lose more weight (I felt like I could never win!). This surgery has left me scared to ask for help with my health and made me feel like a burden to the health service just because I survived a horrific childhood and then suffered some unfortunate events as an adult. I even asked to have my psychiatric diagnosis reconsidered I was told this was not possible as "there are lots of different personality disorders and you definitely have one" my new GP questions this and says that my difficulties are actually a manifestation of the trauma I have gone through and not a reflection of me as a person. I consistently felt belittled at this surgery by at least one doctor who decided that if I was unhappy with NHS psychiatric care that I should write to my MP as "it will be a distracting activity" I had actually been asked to contact the surgery by the crisis team. Getting medication reviews were impossible and I was consistently forced to reconsider being on medication. Upon speaking with my MP they said I should deregister as I was getting poor healthcare. I am just hoping that I can recover from the awful experiences I've had here. Just to put how bad this surgery is in perspective even the crisis team were encouraging me to change GP!
