"great doctor, indifferent and lazy nurse..."

About: Central Middlesex Hospital

What I liked

the doctor was fantastic.

What could be improved

I received excellent treatment from the doctor who stitched up a bad flesh wound. The nurse, however, was asked to dress the wound. The nurse told the doctor that they had 'run out' of the dressing requested, and continued to dress the wound in a different way when the doctor was out of the room. When I went to my surgery to get the dressing changed several days later I discovered that the nurse had stuck adhesive tape straight onto the wound, which had 12 stitches in it. Had I not warned my doctor to be careful as I was sure that it had been badly dressed, it is likely that all my stitches would have been ripped out when the dressing was removed. This is unacceptable for a trained medical staff, the nurse took an obvious short cut that caused me a lot of pain and could have setback my recovery for weeks.

We were sorry to learn of your concerns about the way in which a nurse dressed your wound, and your feedback will be passed on to the Head of Nursing and the Matron for this area. If you would like to raise your concerns formally, please write to Fiona Wise, Chief Executive, at Northwick Park Hospital, Watford Road, Harrow, HA1 3UJ, or via email to nwlh-tr.Trust@nhs.net
