"Ambulatory Emergency Care"

About: Heartlands Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was sent to the A&E department by my doctor as I had woken up with a swollen face, and eye. My face was swollen so much that my eye had started to close and bruise. After speaking to a doctor in A&E, I was then sent to the Ambulatory Emergency Care Department. On arriving, the staff were very caring and understanding of my situation, and showed sympathy towards me. I was asked multiple times throughout the day by staff, whether I was okay or needed anything.

The lady that took my bloods and fitted my IV was very kind, gentle and had a great sense of humour. She made me feel at ease at a time where I was very nervous.

They ran blood tests and fitted an IV. I was then given antibiotics to take home with me. A few days later, I was sent for an MRI to see what was going on, and I was told it was a nasal infection. They explained everything thoroughly, and explained what the next steps were. They also told me if it flared up again, I could go straight back to their department, rather than waiting in A&E first. This was incredibly helpful. When I was leaving the hospital, all of the staff said goodbye and take care. I have never had such a great experience at a hospital before. The ward was very clean and sterile. I want to thank the staff for making this day a lot easier and less stressful for me. You’re all great at your jobs and should be very proud. I would definitely feel comfortable if I had to return to this department.

Thank you for everything!

Dear blondie-91,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your treatment at Heartlands Hospital, in the A&E and Ambulatory Emergency Care Departments.

It is lovely to read such positive comments and I am very pleased that you had such a good patient experience, as I appreciate it would have been an anxious time for you.

I will forward your posting to the senior management teams for the departments and ask that it is shared with the staff, as I am sure they will be delighted to read your comments.

I do hope you have made a good recovery.

Best wishes

Jenny Langham

Patient Services Officer
