"Thanks to them all"

About: Borders General Hospital / General Surgery (Ward 7) Borders General Hospital / Intensive & Critical Care

(as the patient),

I was rushed in on the Sunday evening with abdominal pain. After seeing the Doctor in accident and emergency department I was sent to ward 7 where I spent the night in the afternoon I was taken for an emergency operation to remove my gallbladder.

They tried keyhole but had to open me up during this time my gallbladder perforated and they had to do a lot more than they hoped for. After this I was taken up to ITU till Thursday afternoon but when I was in iTu I had a day of severe pain in which they had to work hard to get under control.

On the Thursday I was moved down to ward 7 again till the Saturday afternoon when I was allowed home. But on the Monday I was then rushed in again with bad abdominal pains I was in the A & E for about 1 hour only. I was then moved up to ward 7 again and at moment I am still here as they found fluid in my stomach resulting in me requiring antibiotics which I am still on and feeling a bit better.

The reason for this letter is to thank all the nurses in the ITU and in ward 7 for all the love and care they put into making me feel good. To me they went over what they are meant to keep the patients comfortable during their illness and stay in that ward.

So to all doctors. nurses. Cleaners. canteen staff. Auxiliarys who do what they do for others is the best. So for all who say they aren't worth more pay go in to the ITU or ward 7 and see them working, it's amazing how much work they do and would like to thank them all for the help in my stay in hospital and make me feel good thank you all.

Ps. I could name names but I wouldn't have the room for it.  Thank you all again.

Dear volansrq87,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. You were obviously very unwell as a result of your perforated gallbladder and I am sorry to hear that you unfortunately have had to return to hospital. I appreciate that any illness is always a traumatic experience in some way and needing to be in ITU can be particularly frightening.

Your very kind words about all of the staff who looked after you, and about how hard they work, mean a lot to us and I will ensure that your message is shared with them. Our goal is always to do our best for those in our care, whether that is the specifics of treating their illness, relieving their pain or seeing to the other "more normal" things which help people to feel better like meals and drinks and general assistance. An important part of doing our best is about listening to how we do so hearing from you is very valuable.

I am glad to hear that you are now feeling a little better and I do hope your recovery continues so that you get back to your full health as quickly as possible.

Best wishes,

David

Hi David

I am at the end of my Two Week stay in the BGH and have met some really nice staff from A @ E.,. ITU. Fantastic,. Now Ward 8 But my longest stay was in Ward 7 where I noticed the hard work that the nurses and others do in there amazing really truly amazing.

The three cleaners there James, Jamie and Kenny were great and made you laugh and kept the ward really clean. Thank you to them. Ps and a good cup of coffee from young Jamie.

If I had to pick a nurse who shone through it would be two. There was a Tracy on day shift a totally committed nurse who was always there if required with a great big smile which was worth her weight in gold. Also a nurse called Fiona can't remember her last name but you could go on and on picking the people who were there and worked really hard with no complaints.

The food I would go out to a Restaurant and pay for what you get here well worth it and tasty once again thank u very much for a friendly Hospital.

Dear volansrq87,

I'm very sorry to hear that you had to return to hospital when everything appeared to be going well for you. However it's good to know that a cause was quickly found and you are recovering again.

Thank you once again for your further kind feedback and I do hope that you will continue to improve without any further setbacks this time.

Best wishes,

David
