"Long wait for referral"

About: Devon Access and Referral Team (DART) Devon PCT

(as the patient),

I went to the doctors in June and I was told that I needed a referral. I had to wait 4 weeks for a scan anyway but the doctor said not to worry if the appointment for the referral comes through first. I was aiming for a referral into Exeter hospital, this would be my preferred choice.

I waited, and nothing came through so I tried to get hold of the doctor. This took some time, and eventually when I did get through it seemed to me that the referral had not been done.

The Devon Access Referral Team phoned me, and offered me an appointment in the middle of August, which is hugely inconvenient for me and I may be unable to take this appointment.

I have since found out that in my circumstances, I should have had a referral for an appointment through within 3 days - it was nearer to a month when I heard about my referral and the appointment offered is more than two months since I saw the doctor.

I am disappointed in the way this has been handled.
