I attended an urgent appointment at the eye clinic at Pinderfields Hospital and was very nervous about my appointment because I didn't know what to expect. My appointment was to establish if I had age-related macular degeneration and I was very worried about what would happen. From the moment I checked in at reception all the staff I saw couldn't have been nicer and explained what would happen at each stage of the process. The nurses who carried out the eye test and scans were friendly and professional and put me at my ease. There was a wait of just over an hour from my scan until I saw my consultant but the appointment letter advised that the whole appointment could take up to 2 hours. However when we were waiting the nurses kept us updated and where we were in the waiting list and that I would be seeing the optometrist. As soon as she called me in her demeanour made me feel a little less anxious even though I was still very worried. the optometrist tested my eyes and asked me lots of questions and explained what AMD is and that I had a little AMD but she was not concerned and gave me advice on what to do every week to test my vision and even though she discharged me on the same day she explained what I should do if I have concerns in the future. I was so relieved it was good news but after seeing her I feel that if the news hadn't been as good she would have still made me feel better because of the care and attention she showed me.
"Very satisfied with the process and care I..."
