"10 months after accident still waiting for my..."

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was taken to Addenbrookes' A&E department after a bicycle accident, which caused so much trouble on my knees (still to date). The ambulance service and getting to the hospital was fine. In the A&E I wasn't given priority as I would expect they could be running quite life-threatening cases. So I patiently waited (they took Xrays in the meantime). However when I was dealt with the nurse and the doctor in charge they basically treated me like I was taking their time unnecessarily and they got rid of me very quickly (even after I have told them I was in pain and they recommended paracetamols and ibuprofen). I was even told that I am rubbish not being able to move my leg and stop being a baby. I was told I should be fine within few days.

2 days later I received a call from another doctor, who also works in the A&E department and he said he had a second look on my Xrays and suspects there is something quite unusual and recommended for me to go back to the hospital. I am very thankful for this call because thanks to this second check on my Xrays I was referred to an MRI scan and it was found that I had a complete rupture in my ACL ligaments and tear in my meniscus. 10 months after the accident I am still on a waiting list for my surgery. So even after finding out what was wrong, the process takes a very long time. But at least I know I will get the right treatment.

I really wish the A&E staff treated me with more care and respect as their ignorance could have caused a permanent damage and long-term disability for me, which would have been a quite serious consequence.
