I presented myself at a&e with excruciating pain and despite being triaged waited 2 hours with 2 paracetamol which I had to beg for. I remained in agony for another couple of hours and really thought that I was about to die. There were not enough checks on me as I was waiting. Finally got to the SAU at 2pm, where unfortunately a patient with dementia was shouting for the police all through the night. The night nurses were kind but I received very little information the next day. I am a healthcare worker myself so would have understood any information presented to me. I went for scans and my diagnosis was acute pancreatitis caused by azothioprine which I had been prescribed for Crohns disease. Even the discharge summary was wrong and I had to ask the nurse to re-write the diagnosis.
This was a horrible condition made a lot worse by the poor care that I received. Yes I did come out alive but wish I had been shown a lot more consideration
