"Emergency admission parking appalling"

About: The Princess Royal Hospital (Telford)

Today I was sent from A and E in Shrewsbury to your children's assessment unit with a sick child. Services and parking there whilst expensive were second to none. Unfortunately I can not say the same about your hospital. As a single mother, I arrived at your hospital with a very poorly child and could not find anywhere to park. Being on my own, I did not have the luxury of using the drop off zone outside the children's centre. Instead all I found was row upon row of staff parking full to the hilt. I ended up driving round and round until I found a space what seemed like miles from the unit. With a very sick child in tow, in the pouring rain we finally arrived soaked. Please tell me why you treat your staff before your patients(your customers). There was plenty of parking at Shrewsbury so why is there such a problem in Telford? As a frequent user of the centre I come across this time after time. I am appalled you treat your patients in such a way and discriminate against sick children who have single parents. It is bad enough having a sick child and having to travel to get help but to not be able to park when you get there is just unreasonable. Maybe you could reply and tell me what I should have done?

Good afternoon,

Thank you for sharing your experience of trying to park at the Princess Royal Hospital, although I am very sorry to hear of the difficulties you encountered and the additional stress this had on you at a very difficult time. I have shared your feedback with the Operational Managers for Estates so they are aware of the impact this had on you. Parking on both of our sites is undoubtedly very difficult and a number of schemes have been implemented to try and ease the pressures for both service users and staff. If you would like us to look into your concerns in more detail please contact PALS on 01952 641222 extension 4382, so we can advise you.

I do hope your little one is now much better and fully recovered.

Thank you

Kind Regards

Patient Experience Team
