"Amazing nursing staff"

About: Victoria Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

today I had to go in to Kirkcaldy Victoria hospital to get a Endoscopy Gastroenterology clinic, my clinical nurse specialist was Michelle. on arrival the receptionist was so friendly and called me in to the department right away only 5 minuets later did another lady come out and take me in to the changing room to get sorted where a lovely lovely  nurse came out to fill in my details and find out what type of road I was going down this time if I would do gas and air or sedation  I was to get my whole bowel examined so I went for the sedation option. I explained I was nervous and not keen on needles my veins aren't the greatest and because of this she got another nurse in who was lovely too to put the needle in (I know there is terms for all this but I don't know it) she only put the injection in once and I didn't feel it then put the water in and the next thing the room was all funny I woke up with alarms going off one of the nurses at my feet one at my head and another nurse rushing about they were so nice I felt so embarrassed but they were so nice and helped me stay calm and relaxed they wanted me to take my time as I had passed out. I know to some people this would just seem like these nurses doing their job but these ladies could not have been nicer and calming, this was the second time in that ward and all the staff are so nice. in the room to get the procedure michelle and the two ladies that were assisting her were outstanding they made me feel so comfortable and at ease I didn't feel that the painkillers worked I was very uncomfortable and sore but these ladies were so nice and just talked me through everything. they held my hand. anyone who has had this procedure will know what I am talking about how having that someone who is affectionate and just bloody good at their job and u know the NHS get some shit but these ladies down to the women who made my tea and toast after were just so nice smiling nothing to much, asked me several times if I had any questions etc just honestly amazing. thankyou so much to these members of staff for being Yourself xx

Dear Kathy123

Thank you so much for your lovely post on Care Opinion following your recent Endoscopy.

It is reassuring to read that you found all staff friendly and attentive throughout your entire visit right through to the tea and toast lady!

I am sorry to read that you passed out when the needle was inserted for your sedation, its not uncommon but not very pleasant. It is also disappointing to read that you found the procedure uncomfortable but reassuring to know that the nurses supported you throughout.

All of the nursing staff and Michelle will be delighted to hear how positive you found the experience and I will be sure to pass on your comments.

Regards

Sandra
