"Terribly badly run surgery"

About: Phoenix Medical Group

We have had the misfortune to have had to register with this appalling place since moving to Goring 2 years ago.

I found one of the main Doctors manner off hand, and failed to listen to my concerns regarding a particular medication she prescribed. She had come in 20 minutes late and was flustered. I was so concerned about this medication that I refused to take it, having had very unpleasant side effects from it on a previous occasion. I then somehow managed to see one of the practice nurses who put me on something else, which was entirely satisfactory.

I have to say that, in my experience all the Nurses are first class. I now try to see them as opposed to seeing a Doctor.

The other thing is the lack of communication between the office regime and my local pharmacy. Without fail, every time I hand in my repeat prescription at the pharmacy, I have to chase it up/correct it at the Phoenix reception. Waiting a week or more for a prescription is inefficiency on stilts.

Trying to get an appointment with a Doctor is a nightmare. I have had to take my wife elsewhere because she could not be seen, twice. Once when she had a nasty attack of Shingles, evidenced by the receptionist, and the other time, again with the Miami system elsewhere, when she could hardly breathe and was found to have chronic bronchitis.

All in all I would say what with waiting forever on the phone, and a fortnight to three weeks to see a doctor is more suited to the wilds of Africa, and third world countries.

We are very sorry you have experienced difficulty with the service provided by the practice.

Unfortunately sometimes doctors are unavoidably delayed and their surgeries run late.

This can be for reasons such as having to admit a patient to hospital as an emergency, seeing a patient with a complicated illness, or giving difficult news and I am sure that if you were the patient in these circumstances you would not wish to be rushed by the GP.

Many patients have found registering for the Electronic Prescription Service has lead to a much more efficient way of obtaining repeat prescription.

It is much easier for the practice and pharmacies to track where a prescription is.

Please ask at reception and we will be happy to assist you register to use this service.

The MIAMI clinic was set up and is run by local practices.

It is to help us cope with the enormous demand we all experience, and is a way of offering extra GP and nursing appointments.

The clinicians there can access our clinical system so, with the permission of the patient, can see the medical records.

Thank you for taking the time to comment.
