About: The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust

(as a service user),

I had a GP referral following a fall.

After consultation I was given a date in March should I require a further consultation. In the meantime we had to dash abroad on family matters.

On the date I was given there was a very bad storm and our return plane journey was delayed due to this we only got home two days after the date I had been given.

I rang the physio unit since I had experienced some recurring pain. I was told that I had been discharged and had to go back to my GP.

First of all I do not think I should have to give a detailed explanation of my reason not to be able to get back in touch before the date. There are numerous reasons why patients find themselves in this situation.

But I do think it is a waste of time to have to book an appointment with my GP and go through the system again since it is so hard to get an appointment in the first place. Besides I could be using this slot when someone else else really needs this appointment.

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback about your recent experience with our physiotherapy department

It is our policy to refer patients back to their GP if they do not notify us they are unable to attend an appointment for whatever reason. This is to prevent waiting lists from increasing due to patients remaining under our care when they no longer wish to attend for treatment. We ask that any patients who do require input from a therapist to contact the department ahead of their scheduled appointment and a member of staff would assist in arranging an alternative date.

Our Patient Advice and Liaison Service would be happy to assist you in the future as they can contact the department on your behalf, you can contact them on Freephone 0800 073 0510 or via email at dgft.pals@nhs.net
