My teenage child was admitted to Carseview Dundee as there were no beds available in Perth. As caring parents, we were extremely relieved our child would get the help with their bipolar condition they had requested. After only two nights stay we then became extremely concerned what help our child would get there!
According to my child, on their first night, they were dragged by the body by a nurse/worker to their room for being in the wrong corridor of the unit even after explaining they did not know that. Part of my child's mental health condition when they are ill is that they can't sit still and likes to move!
As a teenager there was nothing there for my child and as a parent knowing them as well as I do I was extremely concerned about their welfare in the care of Carsview and feel very strongly that there should be a more modern unit suitable for young adults to assist their recovery. Thankfully a bed became available in Perth and my child was transferred (not that anyone from Carseview informed us!) where all staff so far appear to treat the patients as human beings and they have a nice environment to promote the well being of patients something I think that Carseview severely lacks.
I fully appreciate that staff dealing with mentally ill patients can have a difficult job and do a great job but also feel some who do not should leave!
Hoping for the future good health of my child and others in the same position.
