"Friendly, reassuring and confident"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I was in the unit for umbilical hernia surgery and from reporting at 8 am to when I was smoothly discharged at 6.30 pm, I received outstanding medical care from everone.

All staff, nurses on the ward, nurses in the operating area, doctors and anaesthetists were friendly, reassuring and confident in explaining everything which would be carried out. I was particularly impressed by the leadership and authority of the surgeon as he spoke to me during the course of the day. Both pre and post operation he spoke with honesty, showing real attention to detail and most important in a down to earth way. All of the surgical team went about their roles in a simple and effective way. When different members of the team discussed their role and asked questions they were professional and at the same time helpful. During what was a long day with some apprehension on my part, I was completely reassured by everything I was seeing and having explained to me about my procedure. The whole environment was clinically clean and appropriate to modern surgical practice. I was able to go home confident my outcome would be a complete success.
