"Our Mother"

About: Hillingdon Hospital / Accident and emergency Hillingdon Hospital / Older people's healthcare Hillingdon Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

Our Mum was admitted to Hillingdon Hospital a month ago with a broken hip.  What made it all the more difficult was that she also has Alzheimers.  We were unsure how staff would cope with such a patient and if she would get the care she needs.  We left the hospital on the first night feeling completely broken, seeing how upset our Mum was, as she was convinced we had put her into a home and were not coming back.  The next day, having spoken with the PALS Team on the Ground Floor (Patients Support & Advice) we walked back to the ward to be greeted by Nurse Vitu and others.  They took us into the Day Room and explained what they do, the experience they have with dementia patients and what kind of care my Mum will receive.  As a family we sat there and felt this HUGE weight being lifted off our shoulders.  Every concern we had, was addressed and explained.  We could leave the hospital knowing that our Mum was getting the BEST care.  We cannot thank you enough for what you have done.  Watching the nurses take time to chat to our Mum, also the lovely man who was going around sweeping the floors, he brightened her day too.  Watching you all 'care' was just wonderful.  We are truly grateful.  Thank you so much.
