"Ask for Newark"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Ophthalmology Newark Hospital

(as a service user),

I was interested to read the letters in the Newark Advertiser regarding "Ask for Newark" and "Response misses the point". I would like to tell you of my latest experience, an appointment was sent to me for an MRI scan at Kingsmill Hospital for my eyes even though the consultant had requested a CT scan which I could have had at Newark. When querying this and also suggesting I could have the scan at Newark, I was told the Mobile unit at Newark was not suitable.

I therefore went to Kingsmill for my scan, a process I found most distressing. On returning home I received a telephone call asking me to return in a weeks time, it transpires that they had only scanned my brain and not my eyes! I said I was not happy to go again due to the distance and problems travelling. I was told that they would talk to the radiologist to see if they could manage with the scan they had and that they would ring me back. They did not call me but simply sent me a new appointment also at Kingsmill.

So not only can I not have it done at Newark, I have to go through a process I don't enjoy and am anxious about and an appointment for someone else is lost, thus wasting precious resources.
