"Basildon Mental Health Unit"

About: Basildon University Hospital

(as a friend),

I am very shocked  and upset how this unit does not listen to family/Friends  in regards to a patient or their security. I had to admit my partner who I love very dearly but we all knew he had mental health issues and wanted him to get professional help as he was very erratic and starting to be a danger to himself and others. When he was admitted we thought he was in the best place to get help. I was in contact with his family ie his daughter and uncle and told them what had happened.

His Daughter was put down as his nearest relative even though she only had to phone up and say it - they didn't check if it was true. Security is shocking in this unit, anyone can call or turn up and say anything and they will let them in.  Myself and my partners uncle turned up and all they asked was our names and just let us in.

In regards to the care provided. The doctors and nurses were not listening to the family or friends that were telling them about the patient as family and friends know the patient more than the doctors do ie his daughter told the doctors not to let a certain visitor in to see the patient but they ignored this, allowed this to happen - which is why the security is shocking. They also allowed the patient out for 6 hrs on his own knowing full well when his daughter and his uncle had a meeting with the doctor they said he can not be let out on his own but they have yet again refused to listen. All the family members and friends can see he is still not right and can not be able to be on his own. Myself with speaking to the patient know full well that he still needs this care as he's still a danger to himself and others. They have now discharged him with no place to live or a care plan in place.

This is a very shocking and upsetting service this unit has supplied. You discharged a patient who still isn't right with no place to live and still a danger to himself and others
