"Care at the new hospital"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Cardiology (Heart Conditions) Wards 6c & 6d

(as a relative),

My mum was admitted as a patient to Ward 6C at the QE hospital in Glasgow over the weekend and she cannot praise the staff highly enough despite this hospital admission forcing her to miss a family wedding. We had heard bad stories about the hospital in the papers but the reality of what we experienced was something else entirely, we expected a dirty ward with staff that didn't care but we found the opposite as the place was spotless and all members of staff were very professional, especially the medical team that explained very clearly to my mother and ourselves what was happening.

My mum was surprised that the auxiliary nurses took the time out of what was a clearly busy shift (the buzzers kept going and seemingly they were also short on towels) to talk to her about her holiday and the upcoming wedding, even when we visited we were made to feel welcome despite it clearly being a very busy afternoon for the staff, one lovely auxiliary nurse even came into chat with us before going for her lunch. My mum was also surprised how thorough the cleaner was as he mopped under and behind everything in her room, he even dusted the clocks on the wall while finding the time to ask her about her day (no pun intended)! Special thanks go to my mums nurse who she said was very attentive, despite having a ward full of patients needing cared for and us asking her all sorts of questions about the next steps! My mum wishes to express her gratitude to everyone involved in her care and making her stay stress-free. Even the porters that took my mum up to the ward kept her laughing, taking her mind off her heart. Unfortunately we can't remember any names. One minor problem was the TV by the bed not being very clear and sometimes not working at all but my mum is keen to stress that "these things happen". To all of you, thank you from my mum and thank you from all of us for fixing her up and getting her home!

Dear Chammond80

Thank you so much for sharing your kind comments about the staff in Ward 6C at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

I am pleased to read about the care your Mum received and the difference this made to her. This is the standard of care that we aim to deliver to all our patients.

I will make sure that we share your comments and I'm sure they will appreciate them. I will also let my colleagues in Facilities know about the issues with the TV.

Please pass on my best wishes to your Mum.

Kind Regards

Nicole
