"AAU experience"

About: Barnet Hospital

My dear Mum was sent in as a medical expected patient but on arrival was told she’d have to be seen by the triage nurse! She was acutely unwell and very breathless. After waiting an hour I’m hideous conditions with standing room only as I asked triage nurse if this was necessary. I appreciate they were horrendously busy but was told I needed to take my Mum straight to AAU. No Porter was offered and the nurse indicated I’d have to back

Outside and round building to AAu. I asked if a porter could take us through the building, no one came in the end I banged on the door and asked to be shown where to take my mum. She was extremely unwell breathless and very pale as had had bleed.

We arrived at AAU which again was heaving. Everyone was apologetic but there were no beds for my mum to be assessed on. We waited a couple of hours and Mum was clearly very unwell. The staff were very upset Mum had nowhere to go but did take obs and set up iv paracetamol. Eventually a site manager arrived and did find Mum a bed and for that I’m so grateful. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to her for working her magic and getting Mum a bed and also the staff member who looked after my mother with care and upmost respect. You are what makes the NHS so great!

Mum subsequently had complications and sadly died in ITU but I will be always grateful for the care received there both to Mum and extended to us.

Please extend a Thank you to the staff

Dear Jenny

Thank you for taking time to leave a review and please accept my condolences.

I will of course extend a thank you to the staff on your behalf.

I am sorry for the delay you describe and am concerned that we had asked you to take your mother around the outside of the building; this is not what we expect to happen.

The staff are what makes the NHS so great and we are a lucky to employ such good staff, they will be pleased to read you appreciated the care they gave but will also want me to add their condolences.

With Kind Thoughts

Richard
