"I was extremely upset when i left this department!"

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary / Accident and emergency

I attended yesterday morning on the advice of a nurse at 111 the night before. Having had a chronic condition for 10 years, any appointments i need to arm myself with full history etc .

I was having very large swellings ALL over my body and a Macmilan Nurse the day before i spoke to 111, advised that i kept a clear and concise log...not difficult as i have numerous social anxiety problems and OCD is one of them!

Sign displayed informs us that the waiting time is 41/2 hours at 8.am ish....i was then spoken to by reception...she tried to get me to go home...triage...she tried to get me to go home and then the farce began. I explained that I had not been out of my home for more than one occasion in ...7 1/2MONTHS due to panic attacks and agorophobia...and that I had Bipolar 1, which because of intolerance to meds and food, was untreated at the moment...apologising straight away for any manic behaviour or social lack of etiquette. Triage...did not seem to grasp the situation, but i was "tagged" and then a lovely nurse and consultant tried to help me out....they were perfect, listened and discussed the fact that although it needed further investigation...the symptoms could possibly need immunology to investigate etc. This lady then disappeared to speak to other members of staff and i never saw her again! In walks in, what I can only describe as the person doing his best to discount everything...not understanding my mental health or in fact listening properly...if any of them would have asked, they would have been given one of the conditions...all confirmed and diagnosed over a 2 year 2 weekly basis, as BDD! I tried to be a big girl and took my top of with the sister half opening the curtain, so she could look at the staff/desk and the other lady invited in, not even having a name it appeared.

Now this is a lump that in the previous 24 hours, as with the numerous others had been graphed and it was under my arm and the size of 2 tennis balls....my stomach was equal to 9 months pregnant (not even mentioned in size values!) and he began to do a cursory prod, explaining my results were maybe not 100%! AGAIN, no further advice, no recommendations, just sorry go back to your GP, he had xray vision, because he could be sure i did not have anything! To be positive, and off he went!! I asked a nurse at the station how i get my ticket for the car park stamped for exit with my mobility badge, she then turned sideways and started talking to my friend! At this point i actually addressed it and said why are you telling him, i just asked the question... thinking they were all assuming i was some malingering hypochondriac! On way out another lady was also unimpressed with her dismissal too and i just burst into tears in Reception!

I have been researching my own conditions for many years, nursed and have been loyal to the NHS, but overworked, underpaid, there is no reason for lack of attention or common decency, maybe HO needs to be read again! VERY UPSET,MH literate? NOT!
