"Day surgery experience"

About: Ashford Hospital / Breast surgery

I had day surgery yesterday. The majority of the staff were lovely & reassuring (l was very nervous). Two particular members of staff were lovely and l felt really looked after and listened to. The BC nurse was an angel and really helped me feel at ease before the surgery. When l came out of surgery the staff were very warm and caring and friendly ( the porter & the nurses).

Special mention too to the 3 staff possibly care assistants?, 1 of whom usually works at A&E in St. Peter’s. They really put me at ease before the antithetic.

The only slight let down was the nurse who took me into surgery. I was really nervous & tried to strike up some conversations but she didn’t really engage.

Some small talk would have eased my nerves.A little more people skills from her would have helped me.

Also the anesthetist was a bit prickly & unfriendly. I was really nervous (in tears) and asked for some reassurance it wouldn’t hurt so much, but all he could say was it is anesthetic so it will hurt. Perhaps true, but a bit of comfort/empathy/reassurance would have helped.

Apart from these little blips staff have been amazing and genuinely caring.
