I had a very strange pain in my lower abdomen, had not been able to sleep for 2 nights, rang 111 early on a Sunday morning, the person who answered the call asked me a number of pertinent questions, and then said she wanted me to be seen by a doctor quickly, so arranged an appointment for me at 10am in the nearest (small) hospital. I was seen promptly, was very impressed with the thoroughness of the examination, a couple of possible causes were suggested, but the conclusion was that there was nothing really serious wrong with me, which put my mind at rest. The GP's opinion proved to be correct, as the pain subsided after a few days, and has now completely gone.
