"excellent hospital for surgery by..."

About: Wrightington Hospital

What I liked

kindness and caring of some staff. Some worked extreemly hard under difficult conditions.

End result by surgeons superb could not be better.

TV and radio facilities good for patients

What could be improved

work rate of certain staff. Non smoking rules enforced. One patient was even supplying illicit drugs to other patients and going out of ward to smoke them and then blaming the hospital for the treatment of drugs officially he was receiving.

Meal distribution.

You order prior to the meal but the meal is not always delivered as requested. Tough luck you are informed. Meals are served up not presentable but just slapped up on plate and put in front of you. You either eat it or leave it. No one cares.

Hand over time takes too long. No staff on ward for about one hour on evening change over.

Mobile phones are allowed but very disturbing. They should be on silent only and then they do not disturb every patient on the ward.

Anything else?

cleaning leaves a lot to be desired. Wet it and wipe it. That is it.

Toilets are cleaned partialy in a morning left wet through and then you have to use them.

Faulty equip or parts missing are not seen by staff and have to be reported by patients. they are then replaced but why should staff not see them and deal with them.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments about Wrightington Hospital. Some of these are positive and I would like to thank you for these.

Some of your comments, however, have highlighted issues that are somewhat disturbing, particularly the one about illicit drugs. Also your comments about the food, staffing on the ward and the cleaning raise cause for concern.

I shall pass these to the Head of Nursing and the General Manager for Estates and Facilities and will respond further to you once I have received their input in respect of the issues you have raised in your post.

Thank you for raising these with us.
