The waste/duplication/inefficiency I want to tell you about is:

1. problems with prescribing. No info on whether prescriptions are used properly. Repeat prescriptions. prescribing just because there's no alternative e.g antidepressants

2,. coordinated referrals - having to stay in hospital because the care provision wasn't coordinated.

3. changes in appointments and cancellation of appointments - impacts on other service users

I support the organisation in making sure that the voice of patients and the public is heard and used in planning services. This involves running events, managing surveys, and building networks with the local community.

This comment was posted from our Stakeholder event in June. We are asking for help in identifying waste and inefficiencies within health services, as we want to make provide the best value we can for public money.

A full report of the event has been sent to attendees and NHS Rotherham Board. Details of specific actions and issues have also been passed to commissioning staff for action.

Specific Issues Raised Above

1. Issues around medication and prescribing were raised several times. These have all been collated and passed to our medicines lead. We are looking into providing information, or running a campaign around this.

2 We agree that people should not have to stay in hospital longer than they need to. This comment will be passed onto the lead commissioner for the hospital to look into, as will comment (3) on the impact of cancelled appointments.
