My son was admitted to Harvey 2 at NUH City, on a referral from his doctor, when I spoke to him on several occasions, he felt that he was not involved at all in the decisions. My wife visited and stayed and several times staff were asked about things or were requested to find out information about the care and food and water, they were met with the "I will find out and let you know" or "I will get it for you" for nothing to happen the staff who ware asked failed to give a answer, or did not return and messages were not passed on, so several times another member of staff would be asked for the same result to happen this included requests for pain relief to go unanswered.
we understand that staff are busy but leaving a patient and family feeling ignored is not good for the NUH image, Also after being told that he could go home and a message given to staff who then passed on the wrong information to the ward sister that he was happy to wait for his medication, when he was not, to add insult to the visit after I sorted it out and said I would pick up his medication later, as it was on stage 2 and was not ready, this was at 10.30 then to go back at 13.30 and find out that the pharmacist still had not been on the ward and had not completed stage two and that then, it had still to go to the pharmacy for processing, and no one was able to give a time scale when it would be ready for collection. its a good job he was not still on the ward blocking a bed. I work in the NHS and was not impressed by the whole experience that my son and family had to go through.
