I phoned 111 last night when an object suddenly appeared floating in my eye.
It appears to be some sort of insect and is very distressing.
I have had a history of floaters and flashes in the same eye over the last few months and some weeping and irritation.
I could still see this object when I closed my eyes last night, I have never had floaters that I can see with my eyes closed! The on call doctor phoned me and told me to go to casualty at St Georges straight away.
It was 10.30pm by this time and I refused so he told me to go to Mayday hospital eye clinic in the morning.
This morning I have had to wait for online shopping and a parcel to be delivered.
I then phoned the eye clinic and unfortunately phoned during the lunch break.
It gave a number for emergencies so I phoned it.
A woman answered and I explained my problem.
When I told her that it appeared to be some kind of insect floating in my eye she laughed and ridiculed me.
Then she told me to go to an optician and get a referral, that they don't see patients without a referral.
( I am wondering how the other reviewer got seen for an eyelash in their eye?).
When I became distressed she took my name and phone number and said she would talk to the doctor and phone me back.
That was about an hour ago and I have not received a call.
Knowing Mayday hospital I didn't really expect to.
I have taken her name so that if anything happens to my vision I will pursue a complaint..
I am left now having to find someone who can see me.
I cannot get an appointment with my GP for at least two weeks.
I very much doubt whether any optician will see me without an appointment and other emergency services do not specialise in eye care.
I have no idea if this is a serious problem or not, I can only be guided by professional people.
I find it totally unacceptable that any one asking for help should be laughed at or ridiculed.
"I was laughed at"
