My partner was referred to Musgrove Park Maxillofacial and Orthodontics Department in October 2017 with a hole in a tooth, with nerves exposed, for treatment due to her also having a brain aneurism and the dentist not confident of carrying out an extraction. First appointment was arranged for January 2018, 3 months in the case of an emergency? The January appointment had to be postponed due to her having a heavy cold and rearranged for the February. The heavy snow in February resulted in the department postponing the appointment until...MAY 2018.
Whilst waiting she had to go to the dentist for emergency treatment to have the tooth plugged, and given antibiotics to treat an infection. Due to the pain, and on the advice of the dentist, she called for, and was given, an appointment at the Musgrove Park Maxillofacial and Orthodontics Department on the 20th March 2018.
During that appointment, a consultation and an x-ray took place and it was agreed that the tooth needed to be extracted as soon as possible. So, given an appointment to extract....May 2018 !!!!
So, this poor lady has had to wait 7 months to have a tooth taken out!!!
There was no assistance from the dental team to get an earlier appointment and to relieve the pain, that is exasperated by the brain aneurism in her head above the said tooth. The decision on priority is obviously given to the receptionist, is this how this department works ? Amazing
Shall be contacting PALS and CE if needed, and perhaps present at A&E although we are always discouraged to do that.
Very, very poor service
"Refferal to extraction in excess of 6 months..."
