"Poor ANTT"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a friend),

Whilst visiting my friend on the surgical unit (Red) at Tameside Hospital I was absolutely appalled to witness a nurse wearing a ring and a wrist watch!! Not only were they not bare below the elbow, they were also giving IV antibiotics wearing only gloves and no apron.

I was keen to speak with the ward manager at the time but my friend felt uneasy staying on the ward if I complained so I feel that this is my only option.

The fact that a manager was on duty but the nurse still has not bare below the elbow speaks volumes in my opinion. I think this needs addressing and rectifying as it is unacceptable.

Good morning,

thank you for taking the time to post these comments, I am very sorry that your observations whilst visiting your friend at the Trust gave you cause for concern.

We understand that your concerns may relate to the Integrated Surgical and Gynaecological Unit and in light of this, the issues you have raised have been shared Senior Nurse Team in order for them to take any steps necessary.

I understand that the current Unit Manager has been undertaking a review of uniform standards since her recent appointment and as part of this, she has been reinforcing the Trust policy and requirements for clinical staff to be bare below the elbows. She was very disappointed to receive your feedback and would like to assure you that this is something that she will take steps to address and provide you with a further response.

If you would like to contact the PALS and Complaints Team to provide any further details or discuss this in more detail, please don't hesitate to contact them on 0161 922 4466 or via email palsandcomplaints@tgh.nhs.uk
