"Admission to A&E last night for bad burn"

About: University Hospital Lewisham

Last night at 11pm whilst caring for my young child with a cold I poured boiling kettle water all over my hand (from a hot water bottle).

I went down to A&E alone (1am), shaky and feeling very tearful and vulnerable as I was without my husband. I was in a lot of pain and was met with immense kindness, efficiency and professionalism, and was treated and discharged within 90 mins - such a surprise to me on a Sunday night. My immediate treatment was given from a male doctor/nurse.

My the accompanying Doctor followed proceedure to the dot and cross referenced my burns with Chelsea and Westminster Burns Unit via pictures and a very detailed assessment.

I was given the right pain relief and made to feel very validated for coming as I wasn't sure I had done the right thing but I was in excrutatating pain and so am very glad I did. I just wanted to feedback, I truly value my NHS and also Lewisham as a local hospital and last night's care was a testiment to how I feel generally every time myself or my family has been treated there over the years.

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide such positive feedback, I hope your burn is improving.

I’ll forward your comments to the matrons in ED to share with the team. Our staff work hard to provide the highest standard of care possible and really appreciate it when this is acknowledged.

Kind regards

Patient Experience Team
