"Poor"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital

What I liked

Staff were friendly

What could be improved

I went in with back pain.AFter waiting 4hours I was x rayed. The nurse asked me to take my bra off for the x ray, which involved me sitting up and contorting my body, and therefore my spine. The result showed I had fractured my spine in two places. I thought this was appalingly incompetent and reckless.

I waited in the corridor on a stretcher for my x ray.THe nurses were talking amongst themselves about how dirty the hospital was and that it was an "infectious area".

I arrived at 2pm.they thought I may have ruputured my spleen or have internal bleeding.they requested a surgeon at 7pm and I did not see a doctor until 1am.10 hours after they first thought I had internal bleeding.

I was kept in overnight.the orthapedic registrar told me I would be better in 6 weeks,I could drive immediately and horse ride in 2 week. After visiting the fracture clinic I was told 3 months until my fractures heal, I can not drive and certainly not horse ride for several months. How could a orthapedic doctor be so wrong?

There is a lack of communication betwee nurses, doctor and patient. Although staff are friendly they are overstretcged and neglect patients. With hindsight my medical treatment was far from satisfactory

They would like the opportunity to investigate your concerns fully and would encourage you to provide us with more details. Our PALS department can be contacted on: 01483 402757 or Complaints: rsc-tr.Complaints@nhs.net

Our staff make every effort to ensure that every patient is treated with sensitivity to their pain and within a timely fashion.

In response to the concerns over cleanliness of the hospital, we are disappointed to hear that staff may have made such comments. Every member of hospital staff is responsible for cleanliness and prevention of infection and attend regular updates on infection control. We also perform monthly audits on environments and have consistently shown to achieve the required high standard.
