"What an absolute joke!"

About: Queen's Hospital / Accident & emergency

We've just got back from taking our 11 month old daughter to the Children's A&E at Queens and it was an absolute joke! We are fuming at the treatment we received! Our daughter had been sick all day and was not keeping any food or liquids down at all, so we called 111 and booked an out of hours GP appointment at Queens at 10:15pm. We were seen very promptly by the GP and told that we were being referred to a paediatrician, so we were to head to A&E with our paperwork. Whilst in A&E we waited and waited; all the time, not one doctor or nurse was available to speak to and ask about the wait, they were nowhere to be seen for most of our visit. After 3 hours of waiting, when we did finally manage to find a doctor to check that our name was on the list, she brushed us off and never returned. After 4 1/2 hours of waiting (now at 3:00am) a couple of nurses finally emerged and asked if we'd been seen, only to find that we were never on the A&E list in the first place! We hadn't been given the correct information and supposedly we should have re-registered at a different reception before coming to the children's A&E. We were not told this by any member of staff, there were no clear signs anywhere and the nurses were just generally quite rude about it, offering no apology or recognition of the fact that the Queens staff had stuffed up. So we were left there waiting, with our 11 month old daughter who was repeatedly being sick, for 4 1/2 hours for absolutely no reason whatsoever. What a waste of time it was and Queens was no help whatsoever!
