"HPB Team whipple Surgery"

About: Hammersmith Hospital

I under-went the Whipple Surgery June 2017, under the care of the HPB team ,which is Lead by a Professor. I was under the care of a Surgeon for Neuroendocrine Tumour resection.

My meetings with the surgeon pre- Surgery, prepared me well for Surgery and I had and still have full trust and confidence in this Surgeon. As I do with all the members of the team and staff.

I am delighted with my result post Surgery. I am eating and drinking normally, bodily functions are working "Par excellence"

Scar fully healed, tumour all gone. My energy restored. I am now under oncology for follow up scans as standard procedure, under another doctor, I am settling in-to my meetings with Oncology and this doctor, and she is very nice and I trust her.

I also have follow up meetings with a member of staff who has gone beyond the call of duty in care and professionalism. She was their for me pre op and by my side in intensive care after my surgery

Another doctor also has been overseeing my care and is also very empathic in his patient approach.

Cancer Nurse specialist also has given me excellent care and advice. and is always at the end of the phone if I get nervous and have a question, she is very patient, because I always ask her the same question, which I find hard not to due to anxiety and it soothes me hearing the same reply.

I was in intensive care after my Surgery and then ward 8 where I was cared for through my remaining time in Hospital.

All the staff were very patient with me, I could not thank every one enough and I think of them all pretty much every day,

It was such a big experience for me. I thought I was going to be diagnosed with IBS and it was such a shock it was a cancerous tumour.

Oddly I would do it again it shook me out of my superficial mundane world, and I have grown a lot from knowing the team.

I have the greatest respect and admiration for them.

It takes many months to come back to yourself after surgery and you will be in Hospital for quite some weeks, obviously it is a big Surgery.

But each day know you are getting there and the skill of the Surgeons is First Class.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback.

Could you please email me at martin.bowler@nhs.net with your name and date of birth so I can pass this on to all the teams.

Could you put in the subject bar of the email NHS Choices - Oncology so I will be able to locate it on our system.

Once again thank you for this.

Kind regards

Martin
