It was weekend, I know it will be a long wait in A&E Taunton and my case was small but was fairly urgent. I phoned GP out of hour service/NHS and advised me to go to nearest MIU instead. Accident happens but departments such as MIU or A&E should be able to respond to emergencies. I was suffering from pain due to accidentally knocking off the ear pierce. I was afraid this will become worse if not seen immediately. Clinically, I can see the changes. I have done first aid but nothing seemed to work. The male staff who have seen me was not accommodating enough and told me there's nothing he can do about it. I am also an NHS worker and I know what patient service mean. I have to asked him to at least prescribed me meds for pain or helped me take off the earing so not to spread the infection (Do I have to teach him?). He does not seem to be interested but I have to be firm about it as I can not wait for Monday. He took an apparatus but dropped it on the floor and still used it (clearly where's infection control?). I tried not to speak soon to respect his space but what puts me off completely he handled it so bad. I cried so bad it was so painful. It was forceful. He didn't even asked me if I was ok. Few minutes after, another staff came in the room as worried because they can hear my loud cry. She was great and help me pacified. I did not see any sincere service from that male staff maybe because he was not keen to help me at all. He obviously does not know what he was doing but being an MIU staff, this case should be dealt with properly. After couple of days I was admitted to the hospital due to severe infection and had surgery, regardless if I have seen my GP on Monday. It got worse because he did not handle it properly in the first instance, I regret coming to MIU, I should have waited 6-8hrs in A&E compared being seen immediately but not carefully, professionally and properly. I have only done this comment after months because I was not ready to remember it. It was so traumatic.
