As a long term user of mental health services, I was used to being treated quite well, until I moved home, I still came under the same hospital and department, but needed to be dealt with by a different sector within the cmht (north/south). That’s when the problems started, I lost my care coordinator and was never given another, I was prescribed a prn medication for anxiety by a consultant psychiatrist, but my GP refused to prescribe it, then the psychiatrist refused to speak to me or give me another appointment because he said he’d discharged me, a fact he forgot to mention to me, I phoned on average twice a week for the last 8 months until I was given an appointment, hope at last, but no, they said I’d been under the service for ‘too long’ and couldn’t offer me anything new in therapy and or medication changes or prn medication, and they actually mentioned that I no longer needed to phone the cmht to ask for a care coordinator. Disgusted isn’t even close to how I feel, it makes you feel that self harm and such drastic actions are the only thing they respond too.
