"Surgery did more damage than good"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Trauma and orthopaedics

After taking advice from the consultant to improve movement in the first MTP joint after a broken bone not healing properly ( not set after x-ray) a chielectomy was performed. This has left me in a much worse condition, now taking 12 painkillers a day , with less movement and nerve damage. Thanks a bunch.

Dear Anonymous

Firstly, please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you. I am sorry to read that you have had such a negative experience and the surgery you have received has left you in a worse condition, with more pain, less movement and nerve damage. This is certainly not the result we would want for any of our patients.

We would really like to look into this particular event for you; if you would be happy for us to do so or if there are any other concerns we can help to resolve for you, please contact our Patient and Family Experience (Complaints) team by leaving a message on 01872 252793 or email rcht.patientexperience@nhs.net. A Case Worker will get back to you within 3-5 working days to discuss your concerns with you.

I am sorry again for your experience and I hope that we will be able to look into this for you and be able to help you further.

With kind regards

Michaela Brewer, Patient & Family Experience Coordinator
