"My wife fell in the street and broke her nose."

About: St Peter's Hospital / Accident and emergency

My wife Jean (84) was returning from the hairdressers and had a fall in the street and was assisted to return home by passers-by. I dialled 111 to seek advice about treatment and the call- room operator deemed it prudent to send a paramedic for a check-up. On arrival the paramedic confirmed that her nose was broken and after he completed the form filling he took us to St. Peter's Hospital A&E and booked us in. We were called almost immediately and seen by a nurse who confirmed that her nasal passages were clear and that it would heal within seven days. She was advise to apply a cold flannel compression morning and evening to assist healing. After answering several questions the nurse was satisfied that my wife was o.k. to return home. She was well looked after by both the paramedic and the nurse and were discharged after only an hour. I would like to record my thanks to all the NHS staff for their kindness and courtesy at such a traumatic time.
