"Emergency admission of my Mother due to collapse"

About: West Middlesex University Hospital

My 81 year old Mum was admitted to A & E on 24/2 after collapsing at home. A &

E staff were excellent & very patient while spending 5 hours working out what was wrong before sending her to CCU . I found CUU staff on the first week helpful and her bed area clean. She had an Angio on Saturday which left her very bruised coloured and she lost a lot of confidence in how she looks.

Not the same on week 2 when a change of staff happened. Her table was regularly left with bits of medical equipment which wasn't cleared up when I asked them to & a lack of clear information on discharge process and the needs assessment to my Mum & me on the Sunday by her named staff nurse. This left me really upset as I felt she could be left with support and all that was say was she has no Carer. I consider myself as her carer as she has only needed very light support with shopping bill paying, etc when she couldn't get out BUT it was never put as a question to me as to if I considered myself this. It drove me to tears as I left the ward as I felt not valued with no voice. Carers do not need to be registered to be a carer at this level.

Her diet/food intake was questioned by the nurse but she was made nbm on Friday &

Saturday & had no breakfast or lunch because of this. I don't think the nurse looked at her notes before pointing finger

She was moved to Marble Hill the day before she was due to be discharged at 5pm but no phone call to let me know this. She I feared the worst when I saw someone else in her bed & her name wasn't on the board. Staff member I asked on CCU had no idea where the ward she had been moved to was &

I had to find other staff on route as no boards in the hospital corridors state.

On the day she was discharged at 12:30 the nurse was pretty insistent that I didn't need to come & meet her even though my Mum asked me to promise her that I would the previous night. As transport was being arranged for her I was kept upto date until 5pm that there was delays. I had to ring from 19:30 12 times to get an answer to find out what was happening. Luck that the phone number had been left on my voice mail at 12:30 as this had not been given to me. She had left half an hour ago. She arrived back at 20:00 hours. Struggled to get up 2 flights of stairs to her home (24 steps in total & she apparently was quicker than the assessor on the needs assessment) with 2 of us helping her.

Since her return home with a bag of medication, she has been unable to walk unaided from the bed to the toilet on the top floor and feels very weak and has spent the whole time in bed. She can't cook for her self, more dress unaided. She is confused and doesn't know what medication to take when and has soild her clothes every day due to the medication. I have been unable to leave her and go back to work in Ipswich because she has no help, she is not right & I am losing work as a direct result of this.

Not the same person as I last saw the day before her discharge on Marble Hill.
