"There needs to be some serious work done..."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

What I liked

Nurses in cardiology are fantastic.

What could be improved

Repeated question in A and E--they make so much work for themselves! Medical assessment doctors should realise that sick people can't answer so many questions--try looking at their previous notes! I was with my aging father on many occasions at A and E but they seem insistent on repeating questions to get an answer that they could look up.

Dirty toilets in A and E- Seriously. Starbucks cleans theirs every hour--why can't a busy hospital?

Ghastly food--why do they serve such bad food food to sick people? How can they get well with no vitamins or iron? So much salt and sugar!

Complete lack of management in many wards--who is in charge? Who knows anything? Who is accountable? During a 2 week stay I never saw the same person twice to discuss my father's care.

Dreadful weekend care. It's a bad feeling going in to visit knowing that nobody on the ward will know anything. Or care -- as they are weekend staff. That includes doctors. What are they being paid for?

You could drive a truck through most of QA on a Sunday as there is nobody manning desks and no security. I could have left with anything if I was so inclined.

Unpleasant treatment of old, sick people. They are often deaf, disoriented, dehydrated, and scared, yet there is little gentle care. They= staff need some really basic training on how to talk gently and not manhandle people with many aches and pains.

Anything else?

I fear getting sick and having to go into QA. I could list dozens of bad incidents that I don't want to go on forever.

It all stinks of really bad management.
