"999 ambulance response time"

About: North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust Royal Lancaster Infirmary / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

One Friday earlier this month, approximately 9.30pm our daughter rang CHOC regarding breathing problems with her 2 day old son. We were told an ambulance was on it's way - so we waited and waited. Two 999.calls were put in over the next hour and we were still told the ambulance was on it's way. When it finally arrived, on blue lights, at 11.15pm we were horrified to find another patient on board vomiting very badly. Due to our baby grandson's condition worsening we had no option but let him go on that that ambulance. What annoyed us even more was that we could have driven to the 24hour hospital ourselves in less than an hour but an ambulance "was on it's way". As it was, the baby was transferred to Manchester early the following morning for surgery on a twisted bowel.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust doesn't run the Cumbria Health On Call service or the ambulance service, but can only apologise for this distressing experience with your grandson and hope he made a full recovery
