"My thanks to you wonderful people, without you I would not be here now"

It's been two years since I last had a drink, I was towards the end drinking a bottle of Vodka a day. I was a lone drinker, shutting myself in our small bedroom, I didn't wash or eat the only thing I wanted was a drink. I didn't clean the house or have any interest in my husband, children or grandchildren who are all very special to me.

One morning I woke up and thought I was going to die, the only person to help me was me and I had a massive problem. I shut myself in my room with just water, with every mouthful I took I was so sick. After two days I called the doctor who put me on antibuse and prozac. He also wanted me to go to AA which I did but I am a private person and I just couldn’t cope with it.

I went back to the Doctors and thank god I saw a lovely lady who made an appointment for me to see the primary care alcohol team in Rotherham, again thank god. I have finally found someone to listen to me, I felt such care and I wasn’t made to feel worthless.

I was also sent to Lifeline and a lady there helped to rebuild my confidence, with out her love and kindness I would have died. I still remember how I was and life, if you can call it that, I had. I can’t promise I will never go back to drinking, I take each day as it comes. Some days are better than others but I can now cope with this by knowing there is someone, if I need them, at the end of the phone.

I have a good like and a wonderful family who are very proud of me, I have a happy home and lovely friends but the other me sometimes hovers in the background.

My thanks to you wonderful people, without you I would not be here now. The Alcohol team and Lifeline must carry on for the sake of people like me.
