I went into the hospital, it was really bad with all the bad snow. Got there at 10am, my appointment wasn't until 11:30. I was told not to bring anything with me just a gown to wear on top of the surgery dress that they gave me. I was not offered a bed at all but just to sit in the waiting area.
My partner was told he can't wait with me as only a drop off, but other people had company, made me feel like I don't have no value.
I had no contact from the student nurse that registered me in from 10:00 - 15:30. Surgery took place from 15:30 - 19:00, back on the ward they said, I had not eaten since the day before at 7pm, we are now 24 hours later, I have still not eaten.
Nurse gave me water and all night no one came to see I need anything to eat. I had not taken my phone as I was told that I should not bring anything valuable to the hospital. I asked to make a phone call I was ignored, I asked for something to eat I was ignored.
I felt like a lost part all alone. I have never been in hospital before so everything was new.
I suffered a lot of pain but was scared to call anyone. I was glad when it was the morning. Doctors came around. I asked if they had removed anything. All I got was "you can go home, we will discharge you".
Nurse came to discharge me and asked me do you have any pain killers at home. I asked what do you mean?
She said "then I don't have to order you any". I said I'm in pain now, can I have some medicine? She said I'll go and ask. Came back 3 hours later and gave me paracetamol. It was 2pm, I was glad my family came with food.
The nurse came back with discharge letter, no sick note, advised I can leave without a sick note.
What about the bandages over the cuts, the needle feed in my arm do these not need removing before you discharge me? All I got "oops I forgot" from the nurse.
First time surgery but the care I got was disgusting and awful. I hope and pray to God I don't ever need a surgery again.
The whole thing, for someone who doesn't use the NHS service, I found it awful, hurtful and very upsetting.
"Awful care after my operation"
