"Excellent care in HDU"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Surgical HDU

(as the patient),

I had 3 nights care in HDU -ward 217 ?? Medical in Aberdeen ARI after an RC to remove my bladder earlier this year.

The nurses who looked after me on those nights were exceptional - on the first night it was Gigi ?? and next 2 days it was Fiona and I would to thank them personally for guiding/pushing me through those first three days/ nights before I was moved downstairs to ward 209.

===============

This is a separate issue regarding other nurses ...........
I would also like to add that my wife's 1st visit to the ward was an unhappy experience as she felt unwelcomed and found it difficult to obtain info as to where I was or when I would actually arrive in the HDU ward from the theatre/recovery area.

Thank you so much for your positive and kind comments about the care you received in Ward 217, Surgical HDU. We have passed these on to your named nurses Fiona and Gigi – who were delighted to be mentioned.

I’m sincerely sorry that your wife felt unwelcome on her 1st visit to the ward – I would hope that this wouldn’t have been the intention of the nurses but I have passed your feedback to the Senior Charge Nurse for ward 217 for discussion with her team.

The nurses in Ward 217 are completely reliant upon the information that they are provided with from the operating theatre and recovery room staff. It may be that, at the time of enquiry, you were actually still within the operating theatre, therefore the time of completion of surgery and your arrival into the recovery room and, subsequently your transfer to the surgical HDU, would have been difficult to determine with accuracy. However, it sounds like this information could have been explained better to your wife at the time and I hope this didn’t cause too much distress.

We look to learn from all the feedback that we receive and by sharing your story you have helped highlight some areas for improvement.

I hope you have fully recovered from your operation and are keeping well.

Best wishes,

Joe
