I had stomach pains in August 2010 so I went to my GP. They diagnosed a urine infection.
Pains no better so went back. GP diagnosed constipation. Pains no better went back, GP diagnosed IBS, but was sent for an ultrasound.
Pain no better so went back, diagnosed with stress, but took some blood tests. Pains so bad, admitted to hospital. Discharged from hospital, discharging Dr said I had only been in pain for 8 weeks and had I tried taking paracetamol? I was on Tramadol at this point!
I became an outpatient under a gastro Dr. Went to STI clinic, had tests, all negative. Pains getting worse, went back to GP, begged her to look at my cervix as pains were always worse during period (always had been), swabs taken, chlamydia diagnosed! GP refused to connect the pains with the chlamydia and would not entertain the idea of it being PID because of my history of negative chlaydia results.
I could not have had the infection for long. GP referred me to Mrs Sharma at Leeds. Had a laparoscopy, PID found and endometriosis. Removed endo. PID was only treated 3 months after it was found at my outpatients appointment. Still in pain today. Was referred to a urologist - 2 appointments have been cancelled already.
I feel the GPs at Colton Mill medical centre took too long to believe me or diagnose me. STI tests are not accurate enough and too much belief is put on them - my GP said they could not be wrong and that I should question my husband!
I felt the staff I met at Leeds hospital were uncaring. One Doctor even suggested I was trying to be in hospital because of problems at home!
So treatment at Leeds hospitals and GP surgery not pleasant. I wish I lived somewhere else and did not have to go anywhere near Leeds.
