"could not wait to get out of there"

About: Queen's Hospital / Maternity care

I had the utmost displeasure of having to use the maternity services via Triage and cornflour B ward last week. I am suffering with severe sickness during my pregnancy but was made to feel like I should just be getting on with it. I had been sick 14 times in the 24 hours prior to my visit to hospital despite being on regular antisickness tablets. The nurses at triage just laughed and said its normal, my blood pressure was 90/50 and I was asked if I could walk back to the waiting room and Dr might see me. Nurse wanted me to go home and said it should settle. I insisted I was very weak and could barely walk. I was walked back to waiting room where I had 2 nose bleeds, other patients were more helpful, nurses did nothing. eventually I was seen by a lovely doctor who could see how dehydrated I was and told me I was to be admitted - I thought great, I'll finally get some treatment. Dr cannulated and then nurse came back in and said there are absolutely no beds - could I have the fluids whilst in the waiting room and be sent home from there?! I just ignored the nurse, another nurse came along and took me to the quiet room until a bed was being found. I had been waiting 4.5 hours before I got any painkillers and was left with a sick bowl for a further 2 hours before I got a bed and some iv fluids that I desperately needed. I was wheeled over to a bed, a jug of water was placed so far out of reach alongside the bedside buzzer - I think done so staff were not disturbed. I managed to get the attention of a healthcare assistant who was lovely and got me a blanket as I was shivering. I did not see the nursing staff again until handover, my next bag was fluids was due - I had seen I was prescribed 5 bags in total. the nurse was more concerned about when I would be going home as I was starting to look better?! I was adamant that I would not be pushed away like others I had seen this happen to. The night was cold and I cant say I got much sleep, was woken up at 2am by staff as someone had forgotten to give me antibiotics during the evening drug round. the nurses were on a mission to get me out asap, the fluid was infusing so rapidly that my arm was puffy - which worried me and nurse dismissed it as normal. I was thankful to see the doctors again, they said I could go home after my last bag of fluid. The bathroom was dirty, sharing with 3 other patients. dirty bed pans left in the bathroom for >6 hours until they were removed. The nurse came with discharge medication, I was given 10 tablets of antisickness medication, I was supposed to take it three times a day - that would last me only 3 days bearing in mind it was Thursday - I wouldn't be able to see my gp to get a further supply. The nurse rolled her eyes at me for clocking on to this. She said she'll have to check with her seniors and could give me 10 further tablets but that is the most she can do. After giving me a print out of my discharge letter - I was asked repeatedly when I could vacate the bed.
