"Dedicated care and attention"

About: Victoria Hospital / Intensive Care Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

Our son was admitted to intensive care after being found unconscious in his flat.  He had multiple issues including kidney failure and compartment syndrome in his right leg.

From the moment we arrived at the unit the staff were absolutely wonderful. They worked with great care and efficiency to first stabilize our son and then treat his physical injuries. Whilst doing this there was always an air of calm and professionalism  and everyone took the time to keep us as his parents informed. We were in  a state of shock and everyone treated us with great care and concern.

Our son spent over three weeks in the Intensive Care Unit during which time he had his right leg amputated above the knee. Throughout that time we had full confidence in the ability and dedication of all the staff. They always carried out their duties in a calm and approachable manner and this helped us enormously in keeping a positive attitude for the duration of his time in ICU.

As our son started to improve they worked with him to build his confidence and let him see there was light at the end of the tunnel. After three and half weeks of dedicated care and attention our son was moved from ICU to Surgical High Dependency and although still in hospital he continues to receive great care from all the staff

Dear AlexF,

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion following your son's recent stay within the Intensive Care Unit at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

I am very sorry to hear of the stressful time you and your family have had, but I am glad the staff you encountered were able to support you in a professional, caring manner.

The ICU can be a daunting experience for both patient and relatives, a stressful environment, which is very different from other hospital areas. I am pleased you were made to feel comfortable, kept fully informed about your sons's condition and ultimately, helped to look to the future, after a life changing event.

I will pass on your kind comments to all the staff and wish your son all the best in his recovery.

Re TV access, we are currently looking how this can be improved within our unit.

Thank you again for your feedback
