What I liked
I was admitted as an emergency late at night having been transferred by ambulance from the Harrogate District Hospital. I had severe epistaxis and was immediately assessed by an ENT clinician and admitted to a single room in the Extended Stay ward.
Early the following more I was examined by a ENT team of doctors who decided to retain me for a further 24hrs with a nasal device in situ when I would would be re-assessed. This was done the following morning when it was decided to cauterise a prominent vein. The procedure was carried out within an hour and I was discharged later in the morning.
I was impressed by the speed and efficiency of all staff concerned from the moment of my admission to discharge. Please extend my sincere thanks to all the clinicians and nurses who took care of me. In particular I would like to thank the Consultant who carried out the final procedure. A charming, thoughtful practioner whom I am sure is a credit to her profession.
To all the nurses and ward staff on Extended Stay, congratulations on a well run unit. I was particularly impressed with the standard of cleanliness on the ward. The cleaning staff on duty on the 15th and 16th June took great care in cleaning every nook and cranny and the nurses and care assistants were excellent.
The York University Hospital, in my opinion, is a Standard Bearer as to what can be achieved in the NHS. The HYMS is an innovative medical school demonstrating a new approach in delivering healthcare. Despite the financial restraints being imposed, I am sure these standards will not be sacrificed. I wish the Trust every success for the future
