I had a mixed experience.
The staff during my labour were fantastic. Due to a complication I was the labour suite and was made to feel secure and comfortable. Midwives were excellent.
The consultant on the other hand had a poor bedside manner in that he simply told you what was going to happen with little justification as to why.
His assistant on the other hand would explain when asked. This happened throughout - for example, I was told that I would only have one hour to push and after the labour I was taken theatre for stitches but was never told how badly I had torn or even why until the next day.
The ward itself was noisy and a bit cramped. I didn't feel rested and I felt sorry for the nurses who were stretched.
The night was the worst- I was on the bed near the nurses station so got no rest due to the strong light coming into my cubicle.
I was numb from the legs down due to medication and one nurse was particularly rude when I pushed the bell and requested for someone to pass my baby to me so I could change her nappy.
She told me to just reach over and get on with it as she is too busy to respond to such a request! I won't be coming back to city again.
