"ms nurse led service"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66) University Hospital Hairmyres / Neurology

(as the patient),

I have been attending both Queen Elizabeth hospital Glasgow monthly for disease modifying treatment,as well as yearly review with my consultant and a yearly review by ms nurse. This is to ensure that my health is reviewed every 6months. This has happened without problem until recently. I received a failed to attend letter in January this year, which was news to me as I had not received an appointment letter or card for the specified date. I contacted the nurses and explained this to them, explaining that my bloods had been taken that day. The nurse had suggested another appointment be sent out for February but I informed her I had review with the consultant in February and that I also had an appointment for August with themselves. At that point I thought the appointment mix up had been resolved, however to my surprise I received another failed to attend letter for February. l contacted them again and explained it all yet again. I gave all my details and told that would be it sorted now. My August appointment was taken down and I was reassured that was it sorted.

To my surprise I received another appointment in for 4 days prior to receiving the letter this week. I know that a mistake can happen buy surely 3 times is a bit much. Thankfully I work in the health sector but goodness help someone with less insight or knowledge of how to deal with such problems. The stress alone of being told that you could be removed from the service could hinder and exacerbated MS.

This problem needs to be addressed for the sake of all neurology patients peace of mind.

Dear linloo,

I apologise for the frustration and upset caused by the administration of your appointments. The MS Service appointments are not managed by Hairmyres Hospital but I have contacted the relevant manager on your behalf and she asks if you could please contact Christine Paterson, Team Leader, Hunter Community Health Centre, on 01355 597 467 and she will assist you ..

Best wishes

Margaret

Thanks for your reply. It is my belief that my appointments have been sorted but will check with Christine, as the last time I spoke to someone they said appointments had been made for April and September which were being cancelled.

As I said in my post, for the sake of other patients, I hope the appointment system runs smoother in the future. Consultant appointments are made whilst at his clinic. This method would maybe of benefit for the nurse clinics too, then patients would be given the letter there and then with no confusion.
