"Outstanding care with additional kindness and..."

I am writing to thank a member of staff for her help with my dad two weeks ago.

This was his third visit to Estuary View this year following a series of falls and worries about a broken wrist.

Firstly, the member of staff reassured him he had not broken the wrist again in his third most recent fall.

She then talked him through some gentle exercises to strengthen the tendons and told him clearly not to continue to suffer with the pain but to take pain relief at regular intervals.

She then asked another lovely staff member to dress dad’s scraped elbow, which was also carried out with much kindness and humour by a gentleman who’s name I missed, but my thanks to him too.

But mostly I want to thank the member of staff for her kind words to dad regarding him going away for two weeks to my sister’s home for some respite. When we came into the unit he was feeling guilty about leaving mum at home and my sister and I were really concerned he would not go, despite my sister having travelled from Wales that day to take him back with her.

Dad is 90 and is my 86 year old mum’s main carer. He desperately needed this break away from that role as mum’s dementia can be pretty hard to cope with and it was the staff member's gentle but firm words of advice which persuaded him that it was what he needed to do in order to regain his strength and to look after his own health. She managed to take away his feelings of guilt, which we were unable to do.

Dad left that morning with no further words of argument against going and has now returned home after happily receiving some TLC in Wales. Mum is did well with us here. Thanks again for all your help in getting us to this point!
